Geekery—Ocarina of Time Edition (Part 1: Music of Hyrule)

"This song is dedicated to the power of the heart...  Listen to the Bolero of Fire..." -Sheik

It's no secret that The Legend of Zelda has greatly impacted gaming history. It is the fifth game in the installment, and was the first Legend of Zelda game to utilize 3D graphicswhich was revolutionary to the gaming community.

However, one of my favorite aspects of this game is its music

If you've played Ocarina of Time, you understand how brilliantly composed this music was. In this post, I will share with you my Top Five Songs from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Without further ado, let's start!

There's just something about The Legend of Zelda's music that has always made me feel heroic and adventurous. When I listen to the soundtrack, I can practically imagine riding on Epona through Hyrule—or beginning an intense fight with Ganondorf. Other times it can be soothing like the music from Lake Hylia, or mysterious like the Song of Time.

In Ocarina of  Time, there are 12 major songs that you learn and play on your Ocarina (13 if you count the Scarecrow's Song). Today, I'm going to share with you my Top Five Songs from the whole game.

These aren't going to be in any particular order...I mean, I can't really pick a favorite—I love them all too much!

I will put the link to each of the songs in the title (with original scenes from the game!), so feel free to get a little nostalgic and watch them as you read the rest of this post!

1. Song of Storms- This one just sounds so enticing...all the while having an underlying feeling of creepiness. You get it by talking to an old man named Guru Guru in the Windmill in Kakariko Village. It's a very weird scene altogether, but for some reason it's always been a favorite of mine!

2. Minuet of Forest -  I love this one because of  the light and easy feel of the song. It's fun to listen to, but also relaxing. You learn this song from Sheik at the door of the Forest Temple, and she teaches it to you on her harp. (Also, I just love Sheik.)

3. Song of Time- This song is one of the major themes in the game. It simply resonates with you, communicating an ancient, and authentic feeling. Honestly, it's one of the first pieces in the game that really submerges you into the Hylian world. You learn this song from Princess Zelda, who entrusted the Ocarina of Time to Link, hoping he could save their world.
4.Serenade of Water-  I can't express to you how much I love the Zoras (the aquatic race of Hyrule). I think it has to do with my fascination with mermaids and the ocean (Don't try and tell me mermaids aren't real, okay!) and even though the Water Temple is challenging, I love it anyway. You learn this song from Sheik, after you find all of the Zoras frozen solid in ice. The Serenade of Water just so calming and beautiful!

5. Hyrule Castle Town - This one is a very upbeat tune that is bound to get stuck in your head moments after you listen to it! The people in Hyrule Castle Town are oddly cheerful—to the point where it's almost creepy...but this song never fails to be a pick-me-up while you're running aimlessly around the Town Square.

And that's it for the first of my Three Part Series on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time! What are your favorite songs from the game? Leave a comment below or you can always tweet me or talk to me on tumblr!

There is so much more that can be said about the music of this game, and the emotions it invokes. People from all over the world cherish and enjoy the well known musical themes from this wonderful series, and I know I am definitely one of them!
Let's bond about Zelda together!

Don't forget to check back on the blog for the next part in the series which will be all about The Gameplay of Ocarina of Time!
